Balance Your Chakras And Add Color To Your Diet WIth These 7 Essential Food Groups
Chakra is a sanskrit word that translates to “wheel of light”. In traditional Indian medicine, chakras are said to be rotating energy force vortices that are saturated with energy from specific locations in the body. These chakras can be likened to seven power stations and are located along your spine — from the base, to the crown of our head — and maintenance of these chakras are practiced through chakra meditation.
There are seven major chakras which provide you with vital life force energy and keeps your body healthy. Chakra balancing is vital to maintaining a smooth flow of energy throughout your physical body.
Unbalanced chakras result in disrupted or blocked energy flow and this will increase your body’s susceptibility to a variety of illnesses – both emotional and physical.
There are a whole range of methods to maintain your chakras’ balance such as kundalini yoga, chakra meditation, crystals, aromatherapy, touch therapy, and a ton more.
But let’s start with the basics. Whatever you put in your body reflects on he outside, right? That includes your chakras as well. Whatever you feed them, affects their balance and energy flow.
I’m going to share with you the seven vital food groups — important components in your diet for balanced chakras:
1. Red foods.
This food group color is vital for the balancing of your root chakra or the Muladhara which is located at the base of your spine. This chakra represents your foundation and feeling of being grounded, and is represented by the color red.
Dysfunctions from imbalance of your root chakra range from lower back aches, sciatica, depression to immune-related disorders.
Feed your root chakra: Apples, carrots, beets, onions, paprika & cayenne pepper.
2. Orange foods.
Your sacral chakra, or Svadisthana, which is located slightly below your navel is nourished by orange foods. This chakra represents our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
When imbalanced, you are immediately susceptible to range of gynelogical problems, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, lowe rback pain, asthma, allergypelvic pains, libido, urinary problems, impotency and frigidity.
Feed your sacral chakra: Melons, mangoes, passion fruit, oranges, salmon and such.
Remember this, when you fuel your sacral center, you also fuel your sexual, creative connection. As such, nourish.
3. Yellow foods.
Your solar plexus chakra or Manipura thrives the color yellow. This chakra is can be found right below your breast in your upper abdomen and embodies your ability to be confident and in control of your life.
Dysfunctions such as stomach ulcers, gas, food allergies, digestive problems, diabetes, hypoglycemia, constipation, nervousness, toxicity, parasites, colitis, poor memory typically occur when the solar plexus chakra is imbalanced.
Feed your solar plexus chakra: Granola and grains (i.e. pastas, breads, cereal, rices, flax seed, sunflower seeds), dairy produce and spices such as ginger, mints, chamomile, cumin and tumeric.
4. Green foods
Your heart chakra or Anahata thrives on the color green. This chakra is located in the center of chest, just above heart and represents your ability to love.
Imbalances in your heart chakra typically results in physical dysfunctions such as heart and breathing disorders, heart and breast cancer, chest pain, high blood pressure, passivity, immune system problems, muscular tension and spiritual / emotional dysfunctions such as a difficulty in attaining inner peace.
Feed your heart chakra: Leafy green vegetables, air vegetables, green teas, basil, sage, thyme
5. Blue foods
Blue foods fuel your throat chakra or Vishuddhi which is located in your throat. This chakra represents your ability to communicate with others.
Throat chakra imbalances result in illnesses such as Thyroid imbalances, swollen glands, fevers and flu, infections, mouth, jaw, tongue, neck and shoulders problems, hyperactivity, hormonal disorders such as PMS, mood swings, bloating and menopause.
If you’re wondering what natural blue foods you can feed this chakra, read on.
Feed your throat chakra: Liquids, tart or tangy fruits such as grapefruit or kiwi, spicessuch as salts and lemon grass.
6. Indigo / Deep Blue Foods
Indigo foods fuel your brow or third eye chakra or ajna which is located on your forehead, in between your eyes. Dysfunctions such as brain tumors, strokes, blindness, deafness, seizures, learning disabilities, spinal dysfunctions, panic, depression often arise from a lack of balance of this chakra.
Feed your third eye chakra: Blueberries, red grapes, black berries, red wines and grape juice, lavender and poppy seed
7. Purple foods.
Your crown chakra, which is also known as the Sahasrara, is located at the very top of the head. This chakra embodies your ability to be fully connected spiritually.
Crown chakra imbalances usually result in a lack of a spiritual connection, headaches, photosensitivity, mental illnesses, neuralgia, senility, right/left brain disorders and coordination problems, epilepsy and blood vessel problems
Feed your crown chakra: sage, copal, myrrh, frankincense, and juniper
Now that you’ve got the seven main color food groups for chakra balancing, you’re all set. I highly recommend chakra meditation as an accompaniment to this diet. You can very easily locate chakra meditation videos on YouTube or Google for this purpose. They usually come with beautiful visuals and have accompanying affirmations or meditative guides that are amazing for either beginner or veteran healers.
So balance your chakras today for optimal holistic health and I wish you all the best.
