Unknown plant; sold as a cucumber, but looks like a melon?

First off, let me show you some pictures:

When I bought this it was labeled as a cucumber (the common English variety); but now, it looks distinctly like a melon!
I was wondering if anyone could help me identify it?

Forgot to include this; it’s around 8″ from top to bottom (as shown in the image), and growing like crazy.

Sorry to tell you this but what you have is hard to ID I don’t believe Maverick is correct that it’s a zucchini, it’s veination patterns are not a zucchini’s but resemble more of a pumpkin. Pumpkin skins (rinds) are smooth when immature and it’s definitely not a cucumber or a melon because the stem on the fruit is too thick. I don’t think Maverick even knows what it is, since he obviously copied and pasted his answer from Wikipedia which is not always accurate. He didn’t even have the decency to site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zucchini from Wikipedia.
What I could tell you is that it is a squash/pumpkin type fruit rather that a melon type fruit from what the stem looks like.
What I suggest is that you take a series of pictures and measurements: leaf(ves), flowers both male and female, and successive growths of about one week apart once you get a mature fruit, cut it and take a picture of that halves and take a picture of the seeds. Make sure you note if the rind is thick or thin, easy to cut through or not. Things like that. You may end up having something unique, like a new hybrid or an heirloom. Once you get these then I’ll have a better answer for you.
