Proper use of feng shui’s prescribed techniques, it is believed, can foster physical and spiritual wellbeing, success, happiness and other positive aspects of life amongst the property’s occupants. The actual name, loosely translated, means ‘Wind’ and ‘Water’ – the two elements most influential in the presence or absence of harmony. The elements in nature used in Feng-Shui involve water, metal, fire, wood, and earth. In nature, they all interact with the others and this includes work areas and your home.
Every aspect of a room is decorated so that a feeling of a particular type grows in us. For instance, a bedroom is the place to rest and relax. So a nice warm bed is what we are likely to expect the most in a bedroom, and the bed helps imbibe a feeling of relaxation in us. The same thing applies to the kitchen or study room as well. Sitting down in your best ergonomic chair will allow one to unwind.
Have you ever been in a room that you did not feel completely comfortable in? The reason may be that the flow of ‘qi’ or energy in that room is blocked due to the layout. Feng shui can be used to free up that flow of energy. By doing so, the mood of the person who spends time in that room will likely change too. For instance, a lot of clutter is always a sign of bad feng shui. How can energy flow freely when there is an accumulation of unnecessary stuff everywhere?
What is interesting about all of these statements is that they are either a misunderstanding of Feng Shui or not Feng Shui at all. Feng Shui has remained a philosophy and can be used in any culture and alongside any belief system. Feng Shui has the capacity to bring about change using an old Chinese formula which determines the rising and falling energy in a house or with an individual’s life.
