small rose plant question?
i bought a small rose plant from the grocery store, and ive been keeping it inside. its been blooming very nicely, it has about 7 flowers on it now and when i bought it it only had three. but yesterday there was mold on top of the soil! is that from not getting enough sunlight? and im wondering if it would survive outside if i planted it? i live in rhode island so its still pretty chilly outside. any advice to take care of this plant would be appreciated! thanks.
Don’t plant it out now if its flowering as it must have been raised in artificial conditions to flower in March, and it will be too cold for it outside. Wait until you see rose buds on other plants in gardens. Roses need lots of light, so do keep it on a sunny windowsill. You can scrape the mould off easily enough – perhaps you are keeping it a little damper than it needs to be? You can let the soil go almost dry in between waterings, but water thoroughly when you do. Avoid a dribble every day.
