Possible Identity theft?
I received my W2s in the mail. The perforated edge has been folded and torn up to the line showing my social security number. It’s pretty obvious that this is deliberate and not a natural tear. I live in an apartment that has locked mailboxes, so no one but the mailman and maybe the apartment staff would have access to my mail. What can I do about this? Should I go to the post office and report it?
Envelopes get ton in the mail. A sorting machine could easily tear it as you suggest.
Go ahead and report it to the post office, but there is nothing they can do.
