Passenger Side Airbag Deflation?

Will an airbag in a 2004 Nissan Altima deflate on the passenger side when nobody is sitting in the pass seat? My son just had an accident and both airbags deflated and he indicated nobody was driving with him. It’s not a big deal, but I also noticed the plastic cover on the seat belt on the pillar was popped off on BOTH sides and laying on the floor.

The air bag sensor is on the front bumper towards the passenger side of the vehicle. On that model they deploy together. Only if the hit was on the sensor. If the hit is not low enough of toward the driver side (on minor hits) the bags will not deploy. They have to be replaced as a pair, along with the sensor and clock spring. AND THE SEAT BELTS IF THEY HAVE BEEN STRAINED TO A CERTAIN POINT. If they have you will see a message on the actual belt that says it needs replacing. pull the belt out and look toward the mechanism that it retracts into. You will see where the belt is folded over and sewn. Underneath this sewn part is that message. If the belt has to be replaced the stiches will be torn. Many people and body shops over look this detail. We never do.
