Can I use medium grade gas in 2002 Audi A6t?
The car calls for 91 grade, which no local station sells in my area. Is it okay to use 89-medium grade gas sometime, and other times the premium grade at 93 octane? Thanks for your help.
If your doing a fill up alternating between those two grades at half tank intervals.. then ya..
But it’s not like they call for 91 because it’s cleaner or something and so using 93 will make up for it..
Your engine is high compression and 91 octane is better at resisting PRE-ignition under higher compression and temperature than an 89 octane is. So that is why you should always use Manufacture recommended octanes MINIMUM.
If you have access to 93, that’s what you should be using all the time.
If you have to use 89, then don’t rev it up as high, be lighter on the throttle, this will lessen the chance that you will require the capabilities of 91 octane.
Keep in mind, gas stations use regular and high-test to make the “middle grade” gas blends. So putting in different blends of gas wont do any direct harm, but you really shouldn’t be running less than what is called for.
You can always by bottles of octane boost if you don’t have access regularly to 91 octane
P.S don’t listen to Justin, 93 octane will not cause problems, you can always go higher, lower is when engine knocks and damage occure.. No1 has every had engine failure from burning BETTER fuel.
Unless the go from unleaded to leaded, but i doubt you’ll be getting your hands on 110 octane any time soon.
