How long is it safe to use rubber hot water bottles?
I need a hot water bottle in bed all year round as I have very cold feet, and when it comes to my monthly period I always have two, as this is the only way I get any relief. The only bottles I would ever consider using are always the traditional rubber ones, but constant use means that I tend to go through them quite quickly. I should mention I never make them too hot to be dangerous.
One of my bottles sprung a leak in bed, recently and my husband said I should check them more often. I would be interested to know :- [1] Have any of you ever had a hot water bottle leak in your bed? [2] How long do you normally keep your bottles?, and [3] How do you know when they are about to leak?
1. Yes, I have had one leak when I put too much weight on it, or did not have the plug screwed in tight enough.
2. I keep them till they leak then its into the rubbish with them.
3. I don’t think you can tell when they will leak, you just have to wait till it happens.
4. Have you considered using a small electric heating pad? You don’t have to fill them, they never leak, you can set the amount of heat you want, and they will stay warm all night long.
