Mens hygiene fragrance sets?
Im wondering if there are sets of bodywashes,deodorants,colognes,etc. Because my Old Spice bodywash/shampoo smells great but is way different then my Axe deodorant which is even more different then my cologne. So are there sets that all smell the same?
Some of the Axe stuff coordinates, but it is not cheap.
An unscented or lightly scented (with a name like “cool” or “beach’) deodorant works well after washing with a body bar like Lever 2000.
Some body washes are more strongly scented than others — be careful. My armpits can’t tolerate antiperspirants, just deodorants. Otherwise worry about fragrance would be a non-issue because it is largely sweat that activates the deodorant — no sweat, little odor.
Sometimes the color symbolism coordinates. Brut (a very little Brut!)works well after bathing with Irish Spring, for example. I don’t think that was a deliberate match — they’re from competing companies, I think — but the “green” aspect means they were probably both planned with an undertone of moss.
You could do a lot worse than to bathe with Ivory Soap, use an unscented or very little deodorant, and shop for an unscented shampoo. If you can’t find one, and if dandruff happens to be a problem, Head & Shoulders is much milder than it used to be, far less “chemical-y” and somewhat pleasant.
Then use no cologne at all. Sometimes the best smell coming off of men is no smell at all.
For browsing purposes, your best bet is to head to a place like Target or Wal-Mart at a less-than-busy times and do some exploratory sniffing yourself. Ten years ago I would have recommended you go to a good department store like Macy’s, but they are far less generous with the free cologne testers than they used to be. (And that soap-on-a-rope crap has the approximate same smell as the gift box cologne it came with, but that soap disappears with use very rapidly.)
At Wal-Mart, you can buy some of the more popular colognes in very small bottles. At mine they have to open the cabinet; I don’t know if that’s the same everywhere.
Always carry an extra clean hanky or two. Then if you DO sweat, they won’t see it anyway!
