How to remove candle wax…..?
Just bought a house and in the bedroom they spilled candle wax down the painted wall, the baseboard and the carpet. Any one got suggestions how to remove it from all three surfaces? Covers an area about a foot square. Can’t paint that room until the wax is gone. The walls are lath & plaster – house built 1948.
The wall and baseboard are easy, but the carpet may be a bit tricky.
Since it is a painted wall, the wax would not have penetrated the top layer of paint, so for the wall, you could simply scrape the wax and paint off in the affected area.
The same for the baseboard, if it was previously painted or varnished.
The carpet is the difficult bit, and may require several attempts to sort out to your satisfaction.
The first thing to do would be to scrape as much wax off with a putty knife and then vacuum the loosened wax.
Any remaining wax may be removed by using a hair drier to melt the wax and dabbing the melted wax up with paper towels.
Note:
You will need to be patient and not attempt to overheat the carpet in the process, and cause irreparable damage.
Once you have gotten that far and if you are still not satisfied, you may try pouring some hot vegetable oil(or any oil) on the affected area and then brush and then add some liquid soap and then use a carpet cleaner to remove the residue.
That is the best I can think of at this time.
