Need help- I tried to make bath bombs but the mold didn’t work?
I tried making bath bombs at home this weekend. I used a silicone ice cube tray for a mold but it didn’t work. The bombs stuck to it when I tried to get them out. Also they seemed like they were swelling. Is that normal?
Any suggestions of other easy things I can use for a mold that will work better?
I think the best moulds you can get are the polycarbonate balls used in some fun-fair dispencers. They are about 4″ accross, but some are 2″ and 3″.
My partner uses some “diy Xmas decorations” – which are the same – two shells that clip together.
The round ones are best.
Once you have made your dry mix, added sparkles or petals, and oils, Use a trigger spray of water for a fine mist – just enough to dampen very slightly. Mix after each 1 spray. – You get an idea when it’s ready as it will clump together a bit – and form a shape that holds when pressed.
By using two halves of a spherical mould, overfill each side loosely, then press together in one go. Squash together, then rotate one side of the mould. slightly squeezing opposite sides when you take the moulds off should make it easy.
If the mix sticks to moulds, spray with a silicone furniture polish, and buff up to a high shine inside. Most mould release agents are silicone based.
You could also try small pie dishes as moulds, or just the bases of plastic beakers. – Just be on the lookout for good shapes with rounded edges.
Dry somewhere they will not be disturbed, and not too hot to loose all your oils. Wrap in cellophane squares to make them easier to handle when dry.
