Votive Mold

Votive Mold
How do I get the top of my votive candles to look right ?

I feel really stupid asking about this. Votive candles look so simple. I have tried everything I know to try but I cannot get the tops of my votive candles to look like those I’ve purchased and/or seen in stores. I use a soy/paraffin mix, have votive molds and one wick pin (I thought that might help). I just want to be able to produce a decent looking votive candle and can’t seem to be able to do it. Help PLEASE!

Getting that smooth top on your votive can be a bit of a challenge and can sometimes become a bit perfectionist quest. That being said, here are a few tips/tricks that might help you:

1) Do not wait for your votive to cool completely before refilling. This should be done while the first pour is still soft to improve adhesion and prevent unsightly “over pour”.

2) If using a wick pin, you can hit the top of your votive with a heat gun (paint stripper) for a few seconds to even out the top before removing it from the mold.

You can also go to the the following Yahoo! groups for some great advice:

Hope this helps!
