Is this penny rare/valuable?
I found a penny the other day, 1988 D. It looks like a normal penny, however, on the outer edge of it, it is silver colored on the front and back. However, when i turn the coin to the side to see just the outer facing part of the edge it is still copper colored. I know that pennies after 1982 have a zinc core with an outer layer of copper so im curious how someone got the copper to fade off of it on just the edge on the front and back faces, but not on the side of the edge. There is also some zinc showing through on th bottom of Abe Lincoln and a little bit on the lincoln memorial.
Heat will melt the copper off the zinc core. Someone could have touched the coin to a hot surface, they could also have used one of those very small and fine torches.
